Mini Guide to St Kitts
For now, St Kitts, which is dominated by dormant volcano, Mount Liamuiga, is still off the beaten track (although it is positively jumping compared to sedate sister-island Nevis), and retains much of its old-world charm. Many of the sugar plantation houses that cover St Kitts have been converted into beautiful luxury hotels. Such settings are undeniably romantic, and have become a big hit with honeymooning couples.
Another factor in St Kitts increasing popularity is the weather. It is warm all year round, but the best time to visit is during the drier months from November to May when temperatures rarely dip below 20 degrees. St Kitts may be small (12 miles long, 4 miles wide), but it has a remarkable variety of flora and fauna – the island is one of the few places in the world where the forest is expanding - as well as outstanding snorkelling and scuba diving sites.
St Kitts is also home to green vervet monkey. The cheeky scamps are a pest to farmers (they will eat anything), but no holiday to the island would be complete without a troop of vervets hanging out with you by the pool.
