Flights to The Bahamas - Overview
Last summer, Virgin Atlantic launched their first direct flights to the Bahamas, although British Airways still offer a considerably higher frequency of service. The major international airport for the Bahamas is just outside the capital Nassau. From here, regular onward connections are available to more than 20 of the other Bahamian islands.
With the northernmost islands being situated just off the coast of Florida, it is not surprising that there are plenty of good links between the USA and the Bahamas, with second-city Freeport also having direct flights to several points on Florida’s east coast as well as a number of other major US cities. Flights via the USA can sometimes be much cheaper than direct flights from London to Nassau, and it is also possible to make your own connections by air or by sea through Miami or Fort Lauderdale. However, unless the price differential is substantial, it is not worth the extra hassle of going this way round, especially as major US airports such as Miami and Orlando can get very congested. In our experience the standards of service are also generally much higher on UK airlines than they are on the US carriers.
