Flights to Thailand - Overview
There is extensive competition between airlines offering flights to Bangkok, especially as both British Airways and Qantas route many of their Australia flights through the Thai capital. Whilst Bangkok has significant appeal in its own right, the idyllic beaches of Thailand can be reached through destinations such as Phuket and Koh Samui.
Unfortunately, the only direct flights from the UK to Thailand operate to Bangkok, but plenty of connecting flights are available to all the major beach resorts from there. Some travellers simply plump to find resorts near Bangkok itself, avoiding the need to take onward connecting flights, whereas others continue further afield by land or sea after a few days in Bangkok.
We hope that you have found this information about flights to Thailand useful.
Mini guide to Thailand
Thailand is one of the few points of stability in an otherwise politically chaotic region (its unreliable neighbours include Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma and Laos). Thailand’s feverish combination of pulsing polysexual nightlife and idyllic coastal resorts continues to attract a huge range of visitors. In the capital and most visited city, Bangkok, unruly gaggles of international backpackers - usually clutching dog-eared copies of Alex Garland’s Gap-year fave The Beach - weave between sex tourists drawn by the women, and sometimes men dressed as women, international business types and retired couples. Anything, truly, goes. The same is true of the country at large, which can offer up a neon-lit metropolis like Bangkok alongside the stunning Dawna and Bilauktaung mountain ranges that mark the border with Burma; and hedonistic island resorts like Phuket and Koh Samui off shores dotted with a number of centuries-old Buddhist retreats. The seediness of a few streets in the capital has given Thailand a reputation which attracts as many as it repels; yet this is still a destination romantic enough to appeal to honeymooners the world over. Driven by youthful desires, it’s populated by those who arrive in search of paradise, in all its forms.
