Flights to Pakistan - Overview
Whereas recent economic liberalisation in India has recently seen a substantial growth in its range of direct flights, the availability of cheap flights to neighbouring Pakistan is much more restricted. T
here is currently very little competition for direct flights to Pakistan. Apart from British Airways (BA), who fly daily from London to Karachi, the market is wholly dominated by the inept Pakistan International Airways (PIA).
PIA no longer offer flights to Pakistan from Glasgow, whilst the future of their other routes is not entirely certain, following an EU-imposed ban on their older aircraft. It is already extremely difficult to book PIA's flights on consolidator websites like Expedia. PIA have also stopped their Pakistan flights from London Stansted.
This means that many passengers looking for cheap flights to Pakistan take connecting flights via the Middle East. Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, for example, are well connected with both London and Manchester, as well as a variety of Pakistani cities. Dubai is an even more popular transit point of flights to Pakistan, especially as additional connections are available from both Birmingham and Glasgow. Emirates will also be starting new flights to Dubai from Newcastle in September.
However, perhaps because of their strong brand presence, and perhaps also because of the frequency of their flight connections, Emirates' flights to Pakistan tend to be more expensive than many of their rivals. The cheapest Pakistan flights at the moment seem to be with Turkish Airlines, who offer flights via Istanbul from Manchester aswell as London.
Meanwhile, passengers who just want to book a direct flight to Pakistan with British Airways should be prepared to pay some exorbitantly high prices. With the current disarray at PIA, BA are the only airline that many passengers will trust, especially on government related business between London and Islamabad.

Mini guide to Pakistan
With mountaineering, rafting, hunting and camel safaris all on offer, Pakistan
constitutes a destination for the adventurous - and that’s before you
factor in the country’s ongoing struggles with India over the Kashmir
region. Concerns over security (not to mention the possibility of earthquakes)
have dogged this part of the world in recent years, though Pakistan’s
fair share of natural wonders - such as the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain
ranges - continue to attract large numbers of tourists and backpackers.
Down on the ground, Lahore is renowned for its vast repository of treasures
from the Mughal dynasty, while the commercial hotspot Karachi proves a popular
destination amongst those looking to find the modern Pakistan. Another major
city, Islamabad, is generally regarded as the safest in terms of law and order.
Lest the culture shock seem too great - even from the lofty viewpoint of the
8,600ft K-2, the world’s second highest peak - it’s comforting
to know that, in these parts, cricket remains a universal language.
