Flights to Malaysia - Overview
Flights to Malaysia from the UK are dominated by national carrier Malaysia Airlines, although they no longer offer direct flights to Penang and Langkawi. Their flights from Manchester to Kuala Lumpur have also been axed as part of a cost cutting exercise. No British airlines offer flights to Malaysia.
There are plans for budget Malaysia flights to be operated by Air Asia X, although these have not gone on sale yet. Their plan is to operate cheap flights to Malaysia from several European airports, including London Stansted. Air Asia X will initially focus their operations on the low cost facility at Kuala Lumpur international airport.
Connecting flights to Malaysia are available through several other European and Asian cities, with links operating to several major Malaysian destinations, including Penang, Langkawi, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
Some travellers take advantage of Royal Brunei Airlines' direct flights from London, and then continue onwards into Malaysian Borneo from the Brunei capital Bandar Seri Begawan. RBA's flights to Bandar Seri Begawan will be able to operate non-stop from London when the airline acquires new Boeing 777 aircraft later this year.

Mini guide to Malaysia
The shinbone of southeast Asia, located south of Thailand and Burma (the thighs) and just north of Singapore (the big toe), Malaysia remains a very 21st century destination, its interest in technology and design apparent simply by observing the neon-lit skyline of the capital Kuala Lumpur. The country's fragile rainforests, and its position at the cutting-edge of gadgetry and in close proximity to the Asian continent's sweatshops allows for some variably ethical shopping, but Malaysia's other main draw is its hot and humid climate.
Take the growth in popularity of Langkawi, a collection of 100 or so islands specifically developed by the Malaysian Tourist Board to attract holidaymakers, a resort which, if the manner in which it survived the 2004 Asian tsunami unscathed is anything to go on, has been blessed with the greatest of good fortune.
