Destination Summary

Despite being situated just across the Kinko Bay from one of the world's most active volcanoes (falling ash is an everyday occurrence), the city of Kagoshima is one of southern Japan's most appealing cities.

James Says

Regular domestic flights to Kagoshima are available from both Tokyo and Osaka, although in both cases, the domestic airports (Haneda and Itami) are used instead of the International hubs. A limited number of daily connecting flights from Osaka Kansai airport to Kagoshima are on offer. Being situated on the southwest tip of the island of Kyushu, Kagoshima is right at the end of the high-speed Shinkansen railway line from Tokyo, but this is not a particularly realistic transfer option. A wider range of international flights is available to Fukuoka / Hakata on the north of the island.

@Jodatu High speed should be just that - limited stop (which hs2 is), stations that provide onward connections (which hs2 does very poorly)

@Jodatu You wouldn't want 3 stations in Birmingham serving #HS2 - also, double deck, 400m long trains not compatible with classic track

@Jodatu You could make that argument about any central station or hub airport. Reality is, origin + connection passengers justify both
