Mark Says

Situated in the western Indian state of Gujarat, Ahmedabad attracts visitors from the whole world keen to explore the city's links with the revered pacifist Mahatma Gandhi. The Gandhi Ashram, on the banks of the Sabarnati river, has been maintained in the serene state in which the great man left it: you'll even find Gandhi's slippers intact there. This part of the world is blessed with a fascinating range of Hindu and Islamic architecture: street markets, forts, temples and mosques (including one of India's oldest, the Jama Masjid) prove enduringly popular with travellers. Ahmedabad has its own peculiar wildlife, including parrots and chipmunks. But it's the city's industrial heritage that has led to its earning the nickname 'Manchester of the East'. There's evidence of this in two of Ahmedabad's major attractions: the Calico Museum of Textiles, home to an array of lavish tapestries, and the unlikely but strangely fascinating Utensils Museum. Museums may also be a vital source of shade during the summer months, when temperatures rise as high as 45°C. The monsoon season brings its own relief between July and September: pack accordingly.

@Jodatu High speed should be just that - limited stop (which hs2 is), stations that provide onward connections (which hs2 does very poorly)

@Jodatu You wouldn't want 3 stations in Birmingham serving #HS2 - also, double deck, 400m long trains not compatible with classic track

@Jodatu You could make that argument about any central station or hub airport. Reality is, origin + connection passengers justify both
