Mark Says

It is no coincidence that Cape Town is consistently voted as one of the top five places in the world to live and visit – it is one of the most beautiful cities on earth, nestled between the pounding Atlantic ocean and the 1000m-high, flat-topped Table Mountain. Cape Town is also surrounded by vineyards, apple orchards and fine beaches. South Africa's parliamentary capital comes alive during the warm summer months (from November to March) when the beaches and streets are teeming with visitors from around the world. The city's vibrant café culture comes alive and people flock to renowned restaurants famed for their fresh fish.
The views from the top of Table Mountain are breathtaking – but remember to take your waterproofs, the hilltop weather can be extremely unpredictable. Cape Town's biggest draw is its stunning array of top class beaches. The Atlantic seaboard is the busiest, with the four beaches at Clifton bursting at the seams with sun worshippers. Nearby Camps Bay can get windy, but is a spectacular setting. Just out of town along the west coast is Blouberg beach, which is great for long walks and romantic sunset drinks. Other noted beaches include Fishhoek, Simons Town, Gordon's Bay and the Strand. ; Just off the coast of Cape Town lies Robben Island, a stark reminder of South Africa's turbulent past. Nelson Mandela was held prisoner here for 27 years. Ex-political prisoners, many of whom were in Robben Island during Mandela's imprisonment, now work as tour guides around the site. The revitalised Victoria & Albert Waterfront is a fine example of the forward thinking "new" South Africa. This working port area is packed with stylish shops, bars and hotels.Much of the wine on offer at the city's trendy bars is produced at award winning vineyards surrounding Cape Town, many of which are open to the public.

@Jodatu High speed should be just that - limited stop (which hs2 is), stations that provide onward connections (which hs2 does very poorly)

@Jodatu You wouldn't want 3 stations in Birmingham serving #HS2 - also, double deck, 400m long trains not compatible with classic track

@Jodatu You could make that argument about any central station or hub airport. Reality is, origin + connection passengers justify both
