What a pity that such a beatiful and atmospheric city is so hard to get to. Asmara might be geographically close to Ethiopia, but as Eritrea has border disputes with both Ethiopia, from whom the country gained independence in 1993, and Sudan, attempts to reach Asmara by land from any other northeast African city are likely to prove very difficult.
