The best airline for connecting flights to Algiers from the UK is Air France, who offer flights to Algiers (via Paris) from London City, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and a whole host of other airports.

Note that American owned travel websites such as Ebookers and Expedia are not currently allowed to sell flights to Algiers, so you will need to either try searching European owned websites such as Netflights and Opodo, or booking direct with the airline.

If ever you wanted to see the contrast between the prices on flights to a relatively stable destination, and prices on flights to a more unstable neighbour, then comparing flights to Algeria with flights to Morocco would be a pretty good example.

Whereas Morocco has an open skies agreement with the European Union, which allows budget airlines to offer cheap flights to Marrakech from less than £100 return, you can expect to pay upwards of £450 return for direct flights to Algiers with British Airways.

We looked at flights to Algiers departing on a randomly chosen date (April 16) returning a week later, and found that the best price was £243 return with Iberia via Madrid. Unfortunately, this connection is only available from London, and the same applies to the second best price we found, Alitalia via Rome.

Flights to Algiers from Manchester were available for £391 via Frankfurt with Lufthansa, who also operate Frankfurt flights from Birmingham, Bristol and Edinburgh. From other UK cities, you should be able to find connections with Air France -- for example flights from Newcastle to Algiers for the same dates are available from £420.

Alternative airports

The border between Algeria and Morocco is currently closed, so the only other way to reach Algiers is by land from Tunis in Tunisia. As Algeria is not recommended for anything other than essential travel, we don't think there will be too many takers for this option, even though there are regular flights to Tunis from London, in addition to package flights to Monastir from various different UK airports.
